Slack waxes, which are derived from lubricating oil, are low-refined products with a high oil content. These oils, which have a high oil percentage, are further processed to produce refined waxes.

Only 2% of crude oil is converted into lubricating oils, and a small percentage of them are converted into paraffin products in the next stage. Paraffin and microcrystalline are separated from lubricating oils during distillation.
Slack wax is a semi-transparent crystalline substance in the solid state and a clear yellow liquid in the molten state. Slack waxes have different degrees of hardness based on their melting point. Melting points of 50-53 degrees Celsius are classified as light and 53-55 degrees Celsius as heavy, which causes their fat content to vary from 50% to 35%.
Slack wax is a raw wax obtained by cooling and filtering a wax solution. Generally, three types of slack wax are produced, the type of which depends on the viscosity of the lubricating oil being dewaxed; Which includes:

Slack wax acts as a raw material that is further refined and blended to create valuable petroleum wax products. Slack waxes are used in wax emulsions, building boards, matches, fiberglass, textiles, synthetic woods, carbon paper, candles, shoe polish, fireplace products, chemicals and fertilizers, and paraffin production.
In other words, these waxes can act as good dust suppressants or controlled release agents for various applications, and are used as rust preventives and waterproofing agents in the production of various industrial products.
Fully refined products may be filtered to remove color and odor; however, our slack waxes offer a wide range of physical and functional properties, making them suitable for use in a variety of products and processes. Slack waxes that have a high percentage of Norman paraffin, which causes the formation of large wax crystals, which, due to this feature, are effective in creating hard surface coatings with good waterproof properties.
Slack waxes and petrolatums formed in the dewaxing process contain significant amounts of oil, which usually contain 10-30% oil. Oil in this context means a mixture of components dissolved in the solvent at the filtration temperature; Some of the important properties of the wax for its use are greatly affected. The important wax fractions that are crystalline at dewaxing temperatures have relatively low melting points and are mainly composed of iso-alkanes; which share harmful properties. For this reason, these substances, i.e. oil and low melting point fractions, must be removed from the slag wax. This process is known as deoiling.
Keep in mind that deoiling, partial crystallization of slag or paraffin waxes depends on their melting point. If the product obtained still has a wide melting range, in some materials it is necessary to subject it to partial crystallization again to obtain paraffin waxes with lower melting ranges. In other words, deoiling and partial crystallization are actually different stages of a single operation.
Slack waxes obtained from light distillates by cooling and pressing were in the past deoiled by a process called “sweating”. This operation actually involves separating, by partial melting, into fractions with lower melting ranges. By slowly increasing the temperature of the solid slack wax, the oily fractions with lower melting points are first removed.
These fractions are followed by fractions with higher melting ranges and lower oil percentages. When the sweating operation is complete, the residue consists of solid paraffin wax with the desired melting point and oil content.
How is sweating performed?
Sweating takes place in special sweat pans located in heated rooms. Wire mesh is installed horizontally at one-third or one-half the height of the vessel.
Frequently, pipes for circulating hot and cold water are installed above the strainer. The molten slag is directed into the sweat pan and its temperature, at the top of the pan, is allowed to drop below its melting point.
